The Opiates
NEWS: Album Release in May 2010
It’s been a long break and a while has passed since the 2008 release of our EP. The ways of the ‘music industry’ or what’s left of it don’t always allow for speedy developments, but enough grumbling. We have the go ahead to release the album and a final few tweaks to a couple of mixes will do the trick. In May-ish it will be out and we will keep you updated as soon as we have dates and news. Meanwhile the EP vinyl is still available through www.billieraymartin.com as well as kudos distributors and the digital downloads of the EP are still available everywhere.
See you at a opium den near you.
The Bio
Forthcoming album: Hollywood Under The Knife
The Opiates started with the intention of being an ambient project. Bored, they soon said: f…ck this, and wrote the kind of songs that moved them in cerebral as well as booty shaking ways.
The Opiates are Billie Ray Martin and Robert Solheim.
Their forthcoming album ‘Hollywood Under The Knife’ explores paths pioneered by the Chicago house and Detroit techno heroes, not least Electribe 101, with the aim of taking things forward a step in history.
Although Kraftwerk and Yazoo have been mentioned as influences, their very unique brand of electronic music is as much Carpenters as it is cutting-edge electro, with a nod to current minimal influences.
The Opiates are radical because they do not shy away from the rare match of songwriting and cutting-edge beats and bleeps.
The Opiates will boldly go where the best of electronic duo crossover albums have gone before and will appeal as much to the charts as to the underground, to film and television as much as radio and beyond.
The EP ‘Anatomy of a Plastic Girl’ was released in March 08 on their own label through Kudos in the UK, accompanied by a much celebrated gig at London’s rough trade store, resulting in incredible press reviews both for the gig and the EP. In Germany the song ‘Anatomy of a Plastic Girl’ made it into the top 20 listeners choice charts when it was placed on the playlist at Radio One. It continues to get played weekly at Olaf Zimmermann’s Electrobeats show, who champions the Opiates as well as DJ.Hell and Mark Moore, who are among the fans.
Candy Coated Crime appears on the next Gigolo Compilation CD11 in March 09.
